While waiting for a bus going to Baguio City at 9 o’clock in the morning in front of public
market, in one of the first class municipality of Pangasinan, I notice some passengers waiting for a ride going northern part, some sitting on the bench provided under the waiting shed and some are standing near the highway while looking and waiting for their ride. Not far from the place where I am standing and waiting, I notice an old woman wearing a long sleeves and skirt and her face was partially covered with an old t-shirt, she has long gray hair over her shoulder half of it is tied with rubber band. She was holding a used plastic cup with some droplets of juice inside it, maybe she had taken it from the garbage nearby, then slowly she approach the waiting passengers and passers by to beg food and money, one by one young and old she ask them to give but unfortunately as I have observed there was none who care in giving single amount or food to this woman, then suddenly she come near to me, I reached down to my pocket looking for some coins, I gave her a five peso coin, this is the coin I usually give because one peso nowadays has little value.

After giving the coin, the woman left but my eyes continued to follow her, at the end of the bench under the shade there was a man sitting and smoking while waiting, beside him was a crutch he uses to support himself from walking, his left leg was amputated. But you know what; this man was not exempted for being a prospect by this woman who begs for food and money. I smiled as I am looking and observing to the reaction of men approached by this begging woman, I couldn’t hear what the man says but I supposed that he don’t agree with the woman’s proposal on begging. The woman leaves the man and went back to previous waiting passenger who did not give anything to her.
This woman is capable to earn for her needs, but unfortunately she had practice to beg for her needs. I just don’t know if she has relatives or love ones around to take care of her.
Let us learn lesson from others, it is not bad to asked help, but if it is a habit it will turn out be bad because we’re making ourselves futile, because we disregard our capability and ability to be productive.
